Nasiruddin Muhammad Humayun was born in Kabul on 6 March 1508 from the womb of Mahim Begum. Humayun ascended the throne in 1530 after the death of father Babur. The throne of Delhi seemed to be a siege of thorns for him, because there were many problems in front of him. The empire that Babur left as a legacy to Humayun was disorganized and lacked political unity. The central fund was empty. Even after being defeated by Babur in many battles, the Afghan chieftains kept the flag of rebellion raised. Even his own brothers and relatives are not supporting him. As a result, he was finally defeated in the war and had to run away from India. After stumbling door to door for about 15 years, he finally got success. After winning the battles of Machhiwara and Sirhind, he once again captured the throne of Delhi and on July 23, 1555, he once again ascended the throne of Delhi, but he could not use it for long. . Due to a fall from the stairs of the library, he suffered a severe head injury and died on 27 January 1556.

नासिरूद्दीन मुहम्मद हुमायूँ का जन्म 6 मार्च 1508 ई० को माहिम बेगम के गर्भ से काबुल में हुआ था । पिता बाबर की मृत्यु के बाद 1530 ई० में हुमायूँ गद्दी पर बैठा । दिल्ली का राजसिंहासन उसके लिए काँटों की सेज प्रतीत हुई, क्योंकि उसके समक्ष अनेक समस्यायें थीं । बाबर ने हुमायूँ के लिए जो साम्राज्य विरासत के रूप में छोड़ा वह अस्त-व्यस्त था, उसमें राजनीतिक एकता का अभाव था । केन्द्रीय कोष खाली था । बाबर द्वारा अनेक युद्धों में पराजित होने के बाद भी अफगान सरदारों ने विद्रोह का झंडा खड़ा कर रखा था । उसके अपने भाई एवं सम्बन्धी भी उसका साथ नहीं दे रहे । परिणामस्वरूप उसे अन्ततः युद्ध में पराजित होकर भारत से भागना पड़ा। लगभग 15 वर्षों तक दर-दर की ठोकरें खाने के बाद अन्ततः उसे सफलता मिली । मच्छीवारा तथा सरहिन्द के युद्धों में विजय प्राप्त करने के बाद वह फिर एक बार दिल्ली की गद्दी अपने अधीन कर लिया और 23 जुलाई 1555 ई० को वह एक बार फिर से दिल्ली की गद्दी पर आरूढ़ हुआ, परन्तु वह अधिक दिनों तक इसका उपयोग नहीं कर सका । पुस्तकालय की सीढ़ियों से गिर जाने के कारण उसके सिर में गहरी चोट आयी और 27 जनवरी 1556 को उसकी मृत्यु हो गयी ।
